Plan your own SleepOUT at home or in the community!
What is SleepOUT?
SleepOUT is a fundraising event to help end youth homelessness in Ottawa. By choosing to raise funds and sleep out, you will help provide warm beds and hot meals to homeless and street-involved youth in Ottawa.
Plan your own SleepOUT event:
Choose a date, time, and location for your event. The experience typically lasts for 12 hours. Ideal spots could be your backyard, front porch, or a place in the community like a school, park, or community centre. Just keep in mind you will likely need to get permission to hold your event in a public place. Keep the weather in mind and make sure you have access to a washroom throughout the night.
Invite your friends, family, neighbours and coworkers to join in the fundraising efforts and to sleep out! Remind everyone to bring a sleeping bag, blankets, warm clothes, and proper footwear for the night. And don’t forget a tent!
Why should you SleepOUT?
Each year, more and more people SleepOUT in Ottawa to raise funds and awareness to end youth homelessness in our community.
Each participant should register for the event and join a team. We highly recommend each person set a fundraising goal to reach, or that you set a target as a team, which will motivate your group members. We suggest participants start with a goal of $100 per person.
All participants will be asked to register on the SleepOUT website. The system is designed to help your team with answers to fundraising questions and provides your donors multiple payment options. Donors will also automatically receive a tax receipt for their donation if it’s over $20. Our staff members are also available to help – don’t hesitate to reach out!
It’s a good idea to incorporate a warm meal, water, and hot drinks into your plan for the night. You might also want to host a breakfast in the morning. Think of other ways to make it fun for your team – you could include music, sports, games, and much more.
